Resumen


Neutrino physics is a very active and hot research area, especially after the confirmation of the nonzero mass of neutrinos by observing flavour oscillations. Double beta decay experiments can shed light on some of the pending questions in the field, like the absolute neutrino mass or if neutrinos and antineutrinos are the same particle. Here, motivation and status of double beta decay searches are reviewed. In particular, double beta decay processes are described and the theoretical transition probabilities are presented, emphasizing the connection with the neutrino mass problem. Experimental searches of this nuclear process are also revised, describing different techniques and summarizing relevant results.
